Automotive Proving Grounds celebrated 42 employees with 10 years of service at a Sheriffs Posse Barn dinner dance in Pecos. Frank E. Harper received a 10 year pin, and the event featured the Chicano Breed Band. About 90 percent of the 225 workers reside in Pecos. the plant tests auto tires parts and accessories at a facility claimed as the world’s largest of its kind.

Fiesta Queen Elected For September 16 Celebration
Kathy Martinez daughter of Mrs Mary Martha Martinez was elected Fiesta Queen at Santa Rosa Hall on Saturday night. First runner-up Yolanda Matta will be American Queen during the September 16 festivities. Rosemary Dominguez last year's Mexican Queen presented the new queen with roses as Diana Orona handed roses to the American Teen. The new queens will receive their crowns Saturday night at the Santa Rosa Hall dance.

Young conservatives sever ties with Nixon at Houston convention

Lee joins Pecos Police Department after diverse service
William Tandy Lee, 45, has joined the Pecos Police Department according to Chief Gene Martin. Lee holds an advanced certification for law enforcement and studied at the Albuquerque Police Academy FBI school and Homicide School. He previously served with the Indianapolis Police Albuquerque Police Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office Carlsbad Police and was a detective sergeant with the Big Spring Police from September 1965 until recently.

Tragedy spoils holiday as 41 die in long Labor Day weekend
The Department of Public Safety reports 41 traffic deaths during the Labor Day weekend, with 76 total deaths from all causes from Friday 5 p.m. to Monday midnight. Drownings totaled 15, with multiple fatalities across Texas including Kenneth Hansford in a four car crash near Killeen and Ray Thomas who drowned near Galveston.
