Problems With Improved Pastures For Texas Cattle
College Station Aug 27 Texas veterinarians warn improved pastures bring disease risks. Dr John C Reag er notes grass tetany or wheat pasture poisoning from low blood magnesium. Cases rose after cold wet winter followed by rapid spring forage growth. Emphysema or bovine asthma also rising with several Bermuda pastures implicated. Prevention centers on magnesium supplementation and avoiding stressed cows on small pastures. A&M speakers urge proper mineral programs and cautious pasture management.
