Monks Preserve Trappist Retreat at Mepkin Abbey
At Mepkin Abbey near Moncks Corner on 3000 acres along the Cooper River, 32 Trappist monks maintain a peaceful life since 1949 after the Luce gifts. The 1950 chapel stands amid magnolias and live oaks while thousands visit annually for contemplation or longer retreats. Abbot Rev. Aidan Carr says guests often seek spiritual counseling.
