The Balmorhea Chapter of The Future Homemakers of America met Monday in Ort with Cindy Turnbough presiding. Twenty nine members attended and Weldon Gray was elected FHA Beau. They voted to sell scented candies at 1.25 each. Dan Clark gave a slide program on Denmark. Refreshments were served by Mrs. R. V. Turnbough and her daughter.

Toyahvale Store Reopens Under Mrs Gray Foster
Mrs Gray Foster has reopened the Toyahvale store stocking groceries fresh meats and household items and will manage it herself She serves as postmistress of the Toyahvale Post Office housed in the store building The Davis Mountain ranchers welcome the close to home supplies and a front table for cold drinks The store originally opened in 1947 by Willis McCutcheon and Jimmie Duncan and later operated by others before closing this summer to move to Ker ville Drive out to Toyahvale and buy groceries locally at lower cost than trips to town.

Sweethearts Selected in Balmorhea FFA and FHA
Cindy Turnbough was chosen sweetheart of the Balmorhea FFA chapter and will compete in November district events. Weldon Gray was named FHA Beau at the Balmorhea group’s October meeting. The Reeves County District waters city lawns this week and officials plan post frost cleanup to curb flies and mesquits.

Balmorhea High School football travels to Alpine for a Thursday 7 30 kickoff with no score reported at this time. The Jr High squad will host Imperial on Thursday with no score yet. Harold Walker of Soil Conservation is hospitalized in Pecos for tests this week.

Balmorhea State Park Gets New Manager and Upgrades
Dennis Wynne and family assume management of Balmorhea State Park with plans to rebuild the confession building remodel shower rooms improve the swimming pool and landscape grounds. A new pumping system will supply more water as 35 camping units are updated and ready by January first. Wynne travels from Brownwood with Alpine roots and his wife Sue assists in bookkeeping. The pool remains open but lifeguards are off for winter and swimming is at your own risk.

The Well Kept Community Club met at the club room on Tuesday Oct. 1 with 20 members present. A brief session covered upcoming social events and committee reports.
Hobby Club Holds Meet in Madera Valley Community Rooms
The Madera Valley Hobby Club met October 2 with 17 members and 2 visitors. Mrs. Eula Baker presided. Lois Boyd led the program on Americanism Day. Boxes were sent to overseas servicemen for Christmas. plans included cake sales and matts with historic designs. Hostesses Edith Winterrowd and Allen Gilbert served cake and coffee.
