Oil firms keep to conservation in ads despite fuel cuts
Six major oil companies say Nixon fuel policy won’t shift ads. They have moved from urging buyers to conserving fuel and finding more oil. TV spend fell 36 percent through September 1973 versus 1972, totaling 53.3 million, with Gulf the only one naming a cut figure at about half. Shell stopped national ads after Sept 10 and now air only regionally.
