Nixon calls labor to join United Fund drive at AFL-CIO meet

President Nixon addressed AFL-CIO delegates urging labor to cooperate in pursuing prosperity in peacetime. He touted new laws on unemployment, safety, and job growth while noting disagreements over Phase 2 of the anti inflation program. He defended wage price controls and pressed for unity despite Meany's criticisms.

Thanksgiving interdenominational service in Pecos set

Rev. Ned R. Graves of Bethany Christian Church will deliver the Thanksgiving message at 8 p m Sunday in the high school auditorium. Pecos Ministerial Alliance hosts the service with choir performances from First United Methodist and First Baptist Churches and readings by high school students. Proceeds go to the Transient Aid Fund, which aided 369 people last year with $1 002 48 in disbursements, including meals, gas, lodging, and bus tickets.

Black youths disrupt Abilene school class and loot store

Police reported gangs of Negro youths disrupted adult education classes at a public school and looted a department store Thursday night. Four persons suffered minor injuries. A white woman, 40, said she was kidnapped at a laundromat but escaped unharmed. Police noted armed businessmen guarded property overnight after a prior incident near a nightclub.

Cold snap grips Texas with freezing temperatures

The Associated Press reports Texans shivered in heavy topcoats as a deep cold spell pushed temperatures down to freezing or below across the region north of a line from Wichita Falls to Wink, with slightly warmer readings elsewhere.

Fire destroys feed lot loader

A front end loader owned by Davidson Feed Pens eight miles south of Pecos was destroyed by fire this morning. Firefighters responded at 9 10 a m and extinguished the blaze using Wet Water foam after gas and powdered calcium fed the flames in the feed storage barn.

Two 16-Year-Olds Arrested in Pecos Car Theft

Two Pecos High School sophomores were charged with breaking into a car in the Pecos High School parking lot around 3 p.m. They allegedly stole five stereo tapes cigars and $3 from Norman Kerney Jr. 16 of 1510 Hackberry St. Kerney identified one of the youths and police recovered tapes from a car tied to one suspect's family. The youths were turned over to juvenile authorities for further questioning.

Deep new gas plays slowed by intrastate price split

Texan deep gas drilling faces a price divide as intrastate rates rise to 27.5 cents per thousand cubic feet, while interstate sales fetch lower prices.
