The Labor Department reports the overall jobless rate fell from 6.0 to 5.8 percent in October as more adult women found jobs. Adult women’s rate dropped to 5.6 percent, the lowest since August 1974, with 35.7 million women over 20 employed and about 2.1 million seeking work.
Henry Bailey, 70, of 804 S. Pecan Pecos, is jailed in Reeves County on $20,000 bond after being charged in the fatal, several shots pistol shooting of Charles Day, a Pecos motel cook. Investigators say an argument involving Bailey and Day and three men and two women led to the shooting eight miles south of Pecos on State Highway 17. Day’s body was sent to Dallas for forensic examination. Bailey to appear before an examining magistrate.
Israel Chavez, 27, of 608 S Mesquite Pecos was found guilty by a Pecos jury of robbery by causing bodily injury in the June 22 La Despedida theft at 506 S Mulberry. Sentencing set later this month, Chavez held on $50,000 bond, remanded to Reeves County custody.
Learning and adventure drive Pecos Girl Scout efforts under the Permian Basin council. Council staff train leaders, run camps at Mitre Peak and Hat-A Ranch, and host workshops and events that connect Pecos with Midland Odessa and Van Horn.
