Briscoe urges major rise in Texas school aid plan
Gov. Dolph Briscoe proposed an $850 million boost in state funds for public education over two fiscal years and a cap on local school district property taxes. The plan would raise the Foundation School Program share from 75 to 90 percent, increase per pupil funding, support transportation and maintenance, and add staff for small districts. A new state board would certify tax assessors collectors to promote equity.
