Call to refineries Administration urges oil production boost

The Carter administration urges refiners to raise gasoline output to alleviate shortages. Deputy Energy Secretary O Leary says tapping existing crude and gasoline stocks could lift supplies to about 96 to 97 percent of last year’s level by late summer, reducing long lines at stations. The shift marks a policy change toward boosting gasoline stock use while heating oil stockpiling remains emphasized for next winter. Senate hearings and Democratic caucus actions loom as lawmakers clash with the White House over price controls and energy strategy.
