Senate sets 367 billion ceiling for 1976 spending
The Senate voted to set a 367 billion dollar spending ceiling and a 68.8 billion dollar deficit for fiscal 1976. The voice vote sent the budget resolution to the House for expected approval. Senator Edmund S. Muskie said the plan would better fight unemployment and recession than Ford's proposals. It marks the first stage in a budget control process giving Congress more say in national priorities. It requires only congressional action and does not go to Ford for signature.
