Oil tax approved in Congress with per adult refund plan

The House Ways and Means Committee backed Carter's oil tax and a refund of about 22 per adult next year. The plan would raise U.S. crude prices to align with world markets from 1978 to 1981, boosting gasoline and home heating costs by a few cents but aiming to save 200,000 barrels daily by 1985. The committee also exempted bottled propane use and revived a home heating oil refund program to offset impact.

Young black man fined for kissing white woman in elevator

In Johannesburg a young black man received a fine of 230 dollars or 200 days jail after kissing Amour Loren, a white woman, in a post office elevator amid apartheid era racial laws. Loren testified she felt insulted and left the elevator. Magubane denied the act.

Fetuses Found in Pickle Jars At Brownsville Clinic

Police recovered four human fetuses preserved in pickle jars in the refrigerator of Mi guel S Orihuela a 44 year old midwife and licensed pharmacist charged with injuring a child. The fetuses ranged from thumb to fist size and investigators called the scene sickening. Orihuela was held on bonds after being accused of crushing an infant. His wife Linda 29 was arrested for illegally practicing the art of healing.
