Peco s area farming nears dire crisis warns bankers
At Pecos chamber of commerce meeting Jim Dycus of Security State Bank warned that with natural gas at 1.85 per thousand cubic feet no crop yields a profit. A price of 1.40 would leave cotton and grain with $230 per acre losses and barley $113. Only alfalfa might avoid loss, but farmers lack hay-farming setup. Farmers foresee six months of farming left, with no clear immediate fixes.
