Pecos Man Rescued After Nine Hour Cliff Stand in Guadalupe Peak

Park officials say Walter Crews, 21, of Pecos Texas, was rescued after more than nine hours on a 1000 foot cliff in Guadalupe Mountains National Park. Twelve rangers used ropes and climbing techniques to pluck him from a narrow ledge above Pine Springs Canyon after he entered the park without a permit.

City Council Approves Budget Amendments and Personnel Moves

The city council in a June 9 meeting amended the fiscal year 1976 77 budget citing new resources and emergency expenditures. Resources rose 18 percent to 371,342, while expenditures increased 13 percent by 24,970 with the Public Works Employment Fund rising by 4,008. Tax adjustments totaling 1,426.12 were approved but not collected due to absence of property owner contact, and tax rate remains 1.39 with funds to the general fund. Bids are planned July 14 for a humane department pickup and a police car. Patrolman Turner and Keely resigned. Salas and Newsom hired. Minutes approved. next meeting July 14.
