Florez Jr. received two concurrent 10 year terms for burglaries at Hill's Grocery. Martinez got three year sentence for February burglary. Three men from Fort Stockton got sentences 5 to 18 years for an armed robbery at Cut Rate Liquor Store. Tucker received a 1 to 5 year term. Cano Franco got three years for burglary of a residence. The Associated Press reports a cool front driving showers and storms east across North Texas with highs near 101 in Presidio and 103 in Cotulla. Overnight temps fell to 56 in Dalhart and 81 in Palacios as Panhandle and East Texas stayed mostly cloudy.
The 97th Texas Press Association summer convention runs June 24 26 at the St Anthony Hotel in San Antonio with speakers such as William E Branen Frank Quine Louis Harris Mike Morrow and Alan R Erwin. Lin Helton, a 31 year veteran from Oklahoma, will become Pecos rodeo announcer this year replacing Buck Jackson who retired due to poor health. Helton has announced at the National Finals three times and is a National Cowboy Hall of Fame honorary lifetime member. He emphasizes rodeo stock as athletes and brings promotion and production experience across sixteen states. Ford cancels Iowa trip amid Lebanon evacuation.
Pecos Christian Learning Center invites parents to register their children for grades Kinderschool through 12. Interviews for all applicants will be held and registration packets provided. Santa Rosa and St Catherine's Catholic churches changed weekend plans after Rev. Stephen Till's death. Our Lady of Refuge Barstow hosts 6 p.m. mass Saturday with confessions at 7 p.m. Santa Rosa offers 7:30 p.m. mass and 7 p.m. confessions. Sunday masses at 7:30 a.m. and 12 noon. St Catherine's mass at 10:30 a.m. All liturgies led by Father Giles of Carlsbad New Mexico.
