Vacation Church School at First Presbyterian Begins June 17
The Presbyterian church hosts a Vacation Church School from June 17 to June 22, daily 9 to 11 a.m. with age groups from kindergarten to junior high. Directors and teachers include Mrs. Tommy Mayfield, Mrs. Jimmy Stewart, Mrs. Earl Ligon, Mrs. Bill Cowart, Mrs. Harold McCormick, and others with music by Mrs. Bob Burkholder. Boy and girl enrollment follows the public school year.

Bonnie Cearley notes the vast size and facilities of the church with 15 000 members and a 1.9 million dollar annual budget. The campus spans three blocks with multiple towers, a circular red sanctuary, a gym, theater, and parking. The church broadcasts on three radio stations and houses 27 choirs totaling about 2000 singers. The staff includes 75 full time workers and 12 assistant ministers serving a Sunday School of 9500 and average Sunday attendance of 5000.
