Bentzen seeks 1974 cotton loan extension action
Senator Lloyd Bentsen urged Agriculture Secretary Earl Butz to extend the 1974 cotton loan program from 10 to 18 months. He warned the department’s decision not to extend caused an immediate drop in cotton prices and disrupted the market. Bentsen emphasized the program aided orderly marketing and its extension would help producers avoid further losses.
