The notes show a dark green White House design, broken fine lines, a chalky Jackson portrait, and a smudged foliage backdrop. Secret Service urges clerks to inspect, and notify authorities immediately if such notes are found.
A vacation trip ended in a head on crash on Highway 50 about 200 miles east of Van Horn killing three, including a three year old, and injuring ten others. Survivors, many with head and facial injuries, were treated in a Van Horn hospital and moved to Boulder Camp as condition varied. The dead were Mary Eleanor Hon 19 Chattanooga PD, J Sawyer 55 Santa Ana, Norma Ruth Williams 3 Santa Ana.
Fire started in the Beauchamps’ bathroom closet about one o’clock Tuesday. The blaze damaged the bathroom and kitchen but was extinguished quickly. Insurance covered the loss with an adjustment of 150 dollars. Freddie Beauchamp Jr. smelled smoke and alerted the fire department, whose rapid response kept damage minimal.
Andrew Baker, a highway patrolman formerly stationed in Pecos, collided with a truck near Abilene last Thursday. He is confined to bed at the Hilton Hotel in Abilene. He was en route to Dallas to visit the Centennial. Extent of injuries not learned.

The Southern Union Gas Company All-Gas Cooking School directed by Frank Decatur White ends after three busy days with total attendance 357. White, a renowned caterer and author, demonstrated dishes including gra ham cracker ice cream and Calamity Jane. Prizes, bags of groceries, and complimentary soft drinks were distributed to attendees.
The Board of Equalization for the Red Bluff Water Power Control District has worked three days assessing all taxable property with three land classes. They aim for a $2,000,000 district valuation and will schedule appeals after completing the assessment. Members are James Miller chairman J G Maulding and Herman Ott from Ward County districts.
Mrs Clarence Loring who has been ill for six weeks underwent a major operation Wednesday morning in a local hospital and was resting at press time.
William McQueen returned last week to spend the summer with his mother Mrs. William McQueen. He has been attending school in Amarillo for the past year.
The first Pecos Trade Tuesday attracted a large crowd and strong bidding led by Auctioneer Buck Jackson. Merchants donated items ranging from 2000 dollars for a lawn chair to 200 dollars for coffee, with 23722 dollars spent and over 200000 dollars of auction money purchased by Pecos firms for customers. A second event is planned for the second week in July.
Final details set for Pecos and Midland rodeos with a stock exchange. Pecos will trade 50 bulldogging steers for 24 four year old Brahma riding steers from Midland. Calves for roping are being trained weekly, and rodeo horses depart June 19, arriving in Pecos around June 25 to prep for the contests.
The Pecos Lions host seven clubs for the District T-2 Quarterly Conclave at the Country Club on Friday evening June 18. About 100 members from Monahans Odessa Wink Crane Iraan Fort Stockton and Alpine attend for a three month cycle of host clubs with a picnic dinner and entertainment program after a 7 50 pm business session. Guy E Walker chairs the entertainment committee. The Alpine meeting previously saw Pecos win all banners and earn the right to host this gathering.
A S Robertson president of the Elephant Butte Dam Irrigation Project toured Pecos on a business visit Wednesday. He inspected interests tied to the Red Bluff Dam irrigation project set to begin in a few months and stayed at Judge J B Woolfolk and wife.
The state inspector prompted adding two full credits, totaling twenty six and one half. New credits include Texas History one half, band one, typing one half, and biology one. Biology substituted for a year of science. Band work now counts toward graduation credits. Texas History, taught last year, received affiliation.
R. L. Bowen president of the Community Public Service Company arrived in Pecos for a district office visit. He piloted a private plane from Fort Worth and said business in Pecos and area is solid with prospects for better times through the remainder of the year.
The Williams Kerr Chevrolet Company awarded a contract Monday morning to J L Cunningham for 8624 dollars to construct the stuccoed showroom display room parts and service department. Concrete work filling station and grease racks are under a separate contract. The building sits on the company's lot two blocks east of the current site on the north side of Highway 50. Construction starts in a few days. J W Sutton, Highway shops employee, did business in Balmorhea Sunday.
Balmorhea State Park announces public opening of its pool and bath facilities. The park opened Sunday June 7 with plans for a June 27 water pageant and related features to celebrate the formal launch. The pool offers a large water supply and a constant 74 degree temperature.
