Retired chamber manager aids needy with stamps drives
Carl Reich, 74, former La Porte Chamber of Commerce manager, sorts trading stamps daily to fund donations for the needy. He has sent 21 TV sets to Tyler’s East Texas Chest Hospital and supplies toys for Christmas from stamp book redemptions, hoping to help La Porte and nearby communities. Reich started the project 18 years ago after visiting Taos, New Mexico, and learning stamps funded charity goods.
