In the Tonkin Gulf two underwater explosions heavily damaged the U S destroyer Warrington as it tried to intercept cargo from three Chinese freighters. One sailor was lightly injured. flooding in engineering spaces was controlled. Warrington later proceeded under her own power to Subic Bay for assessment.

Building permits reach 1.7 million in Pecos June

At a July 11 special meeting Security State Bank stockholders voted to declare a 2,500 share stock dividend increasing outstanding shares to 25,000 and authorized sale of 5,000 additional shares to total 20,000 to be sold to stockholders on record June 30 at 59.14 per share. Ten days to exercise purchase rights, then directors may sell unexercised shares. Capital rises to 600,000 with 600,000 certified surplus and about 575,000 in undivided profits. The bank, founded in 1924 with 150,000 capital, grew deposits from 10 to nearly 20 million in six years.

Olibas Adds Name to Ward County Ballot as Independent
In an unprecedented move Ward County Judge Chester Taggart added 26 year old Angel G. Olibas Jr. Monahans to the November general election ballot as an independent county commissioner candidate. Olibas will oppose incumbent H. A. Collins in precinct 1. Olibas is serving with the National Guard at Ft Hood. His brother Pasqual said the petition of about 78 signatures and Rule 13 50 allowed the ballot entry.
