Winkler County Sheriff L B Eddins released a photo of a well worn kitchen knife as a potential weapon in Nancy Siler Mitchell of Kermit slaying. DPS chemists found no human blood traces on the knife though the wooden handle shows gnaw marks from animals.

Sheriff Eddins describes evidence at the well site including a knife and a scattered body near State 302, noting possible animal scavenging and a leg injury.

Drew Matthews completed his first solo flight at Pecos Municipal Airport with instructor Gerald Provenza, trading a shirt tail for the milestone. The 30 days Navy leave holder logged seven and a half hours of dual flight before the solo, in a Cessna 150 with three takeoffs and landings. Mathhews, son of Garland and Mrs. Matthews, will soon report to Corpus Christi Naval Air Station as an aircraft power plant mechanic.
