Permian Basin Rig Count Dips Year Over Year
The Reed Drilling Tools Friday survey shows 143 active rigs in the Permian Basin two-state area, down 18 from 161 on the same day in 1967. Lea New Mexico leads with 36 rigs, Pecos 13, Ward 10, and Ector 8 as Midland and other counties report varied counts.

Private Daniel Jaramillo 20 son of Mr and Mrs Clemente Jaramillo 1216 Farm Road Pecos finished nine weeks of advanced infantry training January 19 at Ft Polk La His final week included guerrilla warfare exercises under simulated Vietnam conditions for five days learning to remove booby traps set ambushes and raid enemy villages He trained in small unit tactics map reading land mine warfare communications and firing the M 14 rifle M 60 machine gun and 3 5 inch rocket launcher.
