The article explains that northern white ash is favored for baseball bats due to its hardness resilience and optimal weight. It notes that the best bats come from second growth trees with 12 to 15 inch diameters, offering greater resilience than larger older trees.
Progress in Pecos Indicates Civic Improvements
Repairs to the County Courthouse and jail facilities update the courtroom with a new floor and cleaner ceilings. The city cleans up vacant lots and condemns dilapidated buildings, with owners to dismantle or face action. Plans call for dismantling the old City auditorium and building a new fire hall for joint city county ambulance service. Top convention facilities at the Holiday Inn and attractions like the American Motor Inn and Ramada Inn boost Pecos tourism, aided by the Chamber of Commerce Tourist and Convention division.
