Weather is new twist in ongoing natural gas problem
Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Co spokesman says the only new factor is weather. Despite long regulatory history, interstate gas prices remain below intrastate levels. Texas curtailments hit 100 percent as suppliers shift to fuel oil, with emergency FPC approvals to move gas between markets. Panhandle serves Missouri through Ohio, cutting shipments by about 1.4 billion cubic feet daily. Reserves decline. Lone Star Gas reports 12 to 12.5 years of supply, while a Transcontinental official notes emergency supplies easing tension. The supplier insists ample new gas exists if pricing remains attractive.
