Betty Grissom of Houston sues North American Rockwell Corp and three subsidiaries in Brevard County Circuit Court for 10 million dollars over the Apollo 1 fire that killed Virgil I. Grissom Roger Chaffee and Edward White II alleging negligence in the flash blaze and seeking damages.

Retired Maj. Gen. Carl C. Turner pleaded innocent to charges of unlawfully obtaining 423 firearms from the Chicago Police Department and evading 16 679 in federal income taxes. Swiss officials opened probes into a Bulgarian four engine airliner crash near Zurich and a train collision. Forty one people died in the two incidents. The aircraft struck a hill during an instrument landing. survivors include a Soviet pilot with minor injuries and a 12 year old Israeli boy.
Comptroller General Elmer Staats said federal drug spending more than doubled from 1967 to 1969 from 514 million to 975 million dollars. He noted Medicare and Medicaid drove much of the increase, with drug costs rising from 350 million to 750 million dollars.

South Vietnam paratroopers backed by U S gunships raided a suspected POW camp inside Cambodia, finding it empty but taking 30 enemy soldiers. The raid was led by Lt. Gen. Do Cao Tri as part of the Cambodian campaign.
