Flood of letters to FCC over bogus religion issue ends
Washington AP reports the flood of protest letters to the FCC on a religious issue that never existed has subsided from 25,000 a day to a trickle. Some 12 million letters arrived since mid-1975 about an alleged petition by Madalyn Murray O Hair to abolish religious broadcasting, which was never filed. An FCC consumer official notes replies and a mailing to about 30,000 religious leaders helped stem the tide.
