Senators clash over Navy ship cost estimates in hearing
In a Senate committee room Senator William Proxmire hammered Navy procurement costs, calling the 52 ships estimate of 3.5 billion a gross mis estimate. He was joined by John Warner, newly seated Virginia Republican and former Navy secretary, who admitted involvement in past errors. The 95th Congress adjourned Jan 3 and the 96th reconvenes Jan 15. newly elected senators have taken the oath and are seated.
