In Vicksburg Mississippi police report scattered rock throwing and a minor firebombing Sunday night after a larger disturbance Saturday when a Black burglary suspect was arrested in a bar. Police Chief Marion Brown said only individuals or small groups of young Black people were involved on Sunday.
President Ludvik Svoboda enlarges the Prague government to centralize economic control, following constitutional amendments approved December 20. The move signals a shift away from Alexander Dubcek's liberal regime before the Soviet invasion.
An 18 year old Ulrich Nacken, a Cologne electrician, was found frozen to death near Bonn after being stripped to his underwear and tied to a tree in 15 below zero weather. He freed his hands but could not untie his feet and dragged about 300 yards to a road before dying. Police identified him and noted last seen Friday night in Cologne.
Burglars broke into a private Munich collection over the weekend and stole about 500000 dollars worth of paintings. Five Picasso works and a Chagall were taken along with other objects including a pencil sketch by Adolf Hitler, police said Sunday.
A Daily Times report says a truck carrying passengers to Jos toppled on a hill and somersaulted, crashing into a bridge in Benue Plateau State. Twenty six people died and 34 were injured in the accident.
A military communique says two Cuban mercenaries were among seven guerrillas killed by Portuguese soldiers in a guerrilla attack on a village in Portuguese Guinea. The dead were members of the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde. names were not released. Portuguese forces have fought nationalist insurgents since 1962.
State police report eight killed when a car wrong way on Interstate 74 crashed head on with another vehicle near Shelbyville Indiana. Victims include three Indiana women and five members of an Illinois family. One 1-year-old child survived. Names withheld pending relative notifications.
AP reports the New Party campaigns in Texas to register 18-year-olds before state deadline 31 January. Robert Kunst in Dallas addressed high school organizers noting efforts to enroll young voters before registration ends and the impact on national party candidates in 1972.
A Texas tax expert warned the next legislature could adopt an income tax if faced with an 800 million dollar bill. James W. McGrew of the Texas Research League noted pledges against an income tax exist, but recalled past pledges against a sales tax were broken in 1961.
In Tyrone Pennsylvania the Columbia Avenue Methodist church loans 100000 dollars to Tyrone Improvement Corp to back a 1 million industrial development project. The loan provides the required 10 percent of mortgage funding under the Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority program.
The last two Green Beret border camps Duc Lap and Ben Het in the central highlands were turned over to South Vietnamese forces ending more than five years of U S Special Forces operations in border camps. American Rangers will advise under U S Saigon command. the 5th Special Forces Group withdrew on Jan 1.

Evans a Republican physician previously health commissioner won a runoff after a Democratic split. Dignitaries including Rogers Morton attended. Evans hints at possible statehood for the islands.
Residents woke at 12 41 am as Albuquerque felt its second earthquake in 37 days. No major damage reported, but many frightened residents phoned police, newspaper and radio stations for information. In Philadelphia, First Pennsylvania Banking Trust cut the prime rate from 6 3/4 to 6 1/2 percent, the sixth cut in nine months, with bank officials saying they have money and are seeking loans.
Two buses collided on a highway near Manila and exploded burning the vehicles. Sixteen people were killed and nine others were seriously injured in the incident.
