Hostile gunman holds woman and baby hostage in Syracuse
The gunman Leroy Cotton, 30, held a pregnant woman and her infant hostage in a second floor Syracuse apartment after firing at officers at 2 a.m. He demanded only cigarettes and warned he would kill the child if tear gas was used. Police described him as highly hostile and intelligent with a history of family trouble. Two officers were injured during the siege.
