Potential disaster as Texas gas leaks threaten cities

Texas faces billions of cubic feet of natural gas seeping from antiquated pipelines across hundreds of communities. Officials warn many systems from the 1940s and 50s lack cathodic protection and fail to meet safety standards, with Hess- pressure increases in cold weather raising the risk of leaks. In Huntington and Goldsmith, engineers patch leaks and call the situation extremely dangerous, while cities like Bay City and Menard report substantial gas loss. Federal funds are expected for repairs and investigations.
