Dunlap Endorses Park Plan for Pecos Region
A H Dunlap of the State Board of Water Engineers urged Pecos Chamber of Commerce to pursue a state park at Irving Springs and Toyah Lake. He proposed linking it with Balmorhea and Davis Mountain projects, offering fishing swimming boating and golf with artesian water for sturdy greens and a swimming pool. Sheriff office notes likely sale of 1938 license plates by March 1 with a deadline of April 1 for all motorists. Deputies Cummings and Maley say plates could appear as early as February 25 but not before. The 1938 plates are black on white and Reeves County numbers begin with 959 351.

Transmitter For Short Wave Police Radio Station To Be Moved Saturday
Capt. W. D. Roberts announced the short wave police transmitter with call KSPT will move to the KIUN site this Saturday. Built under KIUN manager Jack W. Hawkins, the 500 watt station has 1658 kilocycles unlimited operation and a 200 mile broadcasting radius. It will serve about 40 counties and be accessible to all law enforcement agencies. A 92 foot pine tree antenna from Cloudcroft will be set at Pecos, bringing total height to about 130 feet.

WPA Project At Balmorhea Begun
Work began Wednesday on a WPA project in Reeves County Water Improvement District No. 1. Twenty nine men are employed building spillways and rip rapping the reservoir. A L Schloemer of Balmorhea is foreman and a WPA employee from El Paso is supervising the job.

Two Collide Head-On Near Odessa Friday
E. R. Keithley of Kermit and Rolan Thomas of Odessa were injured in a head-on collision 18 miles east of Odessa last Friday. Thomas attempted to pass a third car and collided with Keithley. Both suffered cuts and bruises. Thomas was fined for driving on the wrong side of the road.

Pecos Receives 20 Percent Fire Insurance Credit
Pecos was granted a 20 percent discount on fire insurance premiums for 12 months starting March 1, tied for the second highest in Texas with Odessa and San Angelo. The credit stems from five years of fire loss history, with 25 percent maximum only achievable in Kerrville given equipment limits. The largest loss was the O. J. Green home, owned by Oram Green, burned months ago.
