Cold front barely nudges Texas weather as Sheila Young returns
A new cold front does little to change Texas weather with weekend highs in the upper 80s and lows around 40s. Pecos hits 85 with a 43 reading today as the system acts as a fence between cool dry air west and warm damp air east. Forecasters expect little moisture statewide though a few North Central showers may arrive by evening. In Detroit, Olympic medalist Sheila Young will receive a superstar homecoming when she returns to the city.

Minjarez charged in R and R grocery robbery
City police report an armed robbery at R and R Grocery in Pecos on January 4. Tony Minjarez, 309 S Oleander Sr, was charged after being questioned and admitting involvement. A second suspect remains at large while Minjarez is held on bond.

Robbery accomplices held in Reeves jail
Two accomplices charged with the January 2 armed robbery of a Pecos package store were returned to Pecos from Big Spring and placed under 25 000 bond each. Rus sell Earl Short and Raiford D. Adams, both from Fort Stockton, face additional 40 000 bonds in Carlsbad New Mexico for an armed robbery there the same day. They and a third suspect confess involvement in Pecos and Carlsbad robberies where more than 300 dollars was taken from clerk B J Weigel.
