Indian village found near Hueco Tanks in El Paso area
Archaeologists from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department uncover three pit houses dating 1200 to 1400 A D under Hueco Tanks State Park near El Paso. They find burial grounds pottery and tools with evidence of crop farming and possible earlier human presence. A Butterfield stage waystation within the park is also excavated.

German Soldier Honored for Saving Tunisian Jews in 1942
Israel awarded ex German Sgt Richard Abel for disobeying orders to guard five Tunisian Jewish youths and aiding their escape. Dutch couple Dozy and Peter Van der Goot of Amsterdam provided false papers for Jewish nurses fleeing Nazi occupation. Abel and the Van der Goots were invited to the Yad Vashem memorial in Jerusalem.
