Alameda crash leaves dozens dead as jet hits apartments
Emergency crews continued a mass rescue in Alameda California after a Navy A7 Corsair struck the Tahoe Apartments, igniting flames that swept two more buildings. Authorities fear 40 to 45 tenants may have perished and more than 200 people lived in the affected complex. Lt. Robert Ward of Lemoore Naval Air Station was identified as the missing pilot. Fire officials said many victims might be cremated beyond recognition due to extreme heat.
