Allies urge clemency for Bhutto as court upholds death
Foreign allies including the United States and Britain appeal to President Zia to spare Zulfikar Ali Bhutto after Pakistan's Supreme Court, in a 4-3 decision, upheld his death sentence for an ambush that killed an opponent's father. The ruling also upheld four security police sentences, with appeals for mercy by Bhutto and co defendants. The court’s five men plan further judicial review and clemency pleas continue.
