The Pecos chamber luncheon highlighted five key ideas to boost the town. These include colonizing Red Bluff district, a monthly Dollar Day, a state recreational park at Irving Springs, a Trans Pecos fair, and a new chamber booklet to advertise Pecos.
Work nears completion on a 24 page Pecos Chamber folder printed by Hubbs Printing. The attractive white paper with brown cover portrays Pecos and the surrounding territory showing tourist attractions.
County Agent Ted Johnston urged farmers to bring yield figures to his office covering 1928 to 1937. Figures will base the 1937 subsidy and assist in framing the 1938 base. both participants and nonparticipants in government programs were asked to furnish data.
The Red Bluff district pursues colonization of flooded farmland by relocating about 800 Missouri farm families. Secretary Ben Smith travels to Missouri to invite families to visit Pecos Valley lands. no sales pressure, government will compensate for condemned land. Barstow residents pledge support as Chamber of Commerce drives the plan with local officials and agents coordinating the outreach.
H G Meyer of J C Penneys proposed a monthly Dollar Day in Pecos at a Chamber of Commerce luncheon. Byron Lackey named Meyer chairman of a committee including Jack May Bill Sherrod and Bill Turpin to study the plan. The group would meet this week to consider coordinated merchant specials for $1.
W. D. Casey a prominent Davis Mountain rancher and West Texan pioneer has been ill for two weeks and is hospitalized. His wife and daughter Miss Velma Casey have stayed in town with him.
Reeves County total poll tax payments reach a new high with 1750 residents paying by January 31 and about 50 first time riders securing exemptions. Estimated county voting strength nears 2000 for spring and summer elections, while off-year registrations topped 800. City races begin in April with the mayor and council seats needing candidates.
The Richardson Oils Inc No 1 Marie Elizabeth Brown well, six miles northwest of Pecos in Reeves County, sits at 3690 feet as drilling to 4500 feet is planned after a stuck drill stem delayed tool changes. The location lies in section 62, block 4, H GN survey, near the Pecos country club. Quito Oil Co. has two rigs near Pyote with tests at sections 135 and 125 in H TC survey. J E Fitzpatrick and associates drill.
Dr J L Kincannon told the Pecos Chamber of Commerce that a community effort is needed to create a recreational park south of Pecos at Irving Springs. Lions Club members Kincannon and Dick Chambers advocate a park possibly named Judge Lee Monroe Park with fishing swimming boating and picnicking. They estimate 500 to 2 500 acres may be required and hope a CCC camp could be obtained with state development.

The State Highway Patrol investigated three wrecks near Pecos without deaths or serious injuries. A 14-year-old local boy, Jerry Pool, lost control and hit a residence lawn late Saturday. In Cuberson county, two out of state cars collided at 2 a.m. February 1, injuring two people with minor cuts and bruises. drivers were Mrs. Henry King of Bisbee Arizona and Guilan Harper of Friendship Arkansas, with a charge of driving on the wrong side of the road. Buster Scott of Toyah hit a car driven by Irwin Holloway of Iowa on Toyah's west edge. no injuries and charges filed.
Red Bluff hydro electric plant at the dam supplies Pecos with power via the Community Public Service Company. The Red Bluff district sells about half a million kilowatt hours monthly, including 556 500 in January, plus about 2 000 kilowatt hours to Mentone and power for its own use.
A first aid and emergency instruction class was organized last night under Sergt. W. M. King of the State Highway Patrol. About 20 people attended the formation of the class and instruction will begin early next week. No definite place for practice work has been set.
Monahans officials say ECOS will stay in District 7-B for another year after a meeting with Wink Pecos and Midland. Odessa assigned to District 1 with El Paso High and others. La Mesa and Grandfalls placed in Districts four and 7-B respectively, Stanton rumors noted without confirmation.
A local unit of the Texas State Teachers Association was organized Monday evening at a Reeves and Loving county teachers meeting. Supt. R. Henry Blackwell of Pecos and Supt. L. A. Singleton of Balmorhea were named delegates to the Trans Pecos district meeting in Alpine on March 18 and 19. Representatives from the local governing bodies will meet in Alpine.
In Barstow and Monahans a battle over Ward county seat location reached a head in 109th district court. A parade of voters faced challenge by Barstow attorneys as to their validity. Judge J. A. Crane reserved judgment with more hearings planned and dozens more witnesses to be summoned.
Wesley C. May Pecos school band director travels to Fort Worth for a three day clinic. He will hear contest numbers slated for spring band contests.
The Pecos valley red bluff irrigation project boosts cultivation from 15 000 acres in 1936 to about 39 000 acres this year and plans to extend to 35 000 39 000 acres with 140 000 acre feet water demand. Water storage in the reservoir stands at 236 185 acre feet. Instruments will measure releases to seven districts and the season began March 15 last year with new land prepared from idle plots.
Pecos individuals and firms were invited to join the West Texas Chamber. Regular memberships cost 10 dollars and associate memberships 5 dollars. The regional body has set Pecos quota at 150 dollars.
