Record wheat crop seen
Washington (AP) Farmers in major corn and soybean areas boosted winter wheat plantings last fall amid high cash prices and strong 1974 market prospects. The Agriculture Department forecasts a 1974 winter wheat harvest of about 1.5 billion bushels, up 19 percent from 1973, with Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado and Nebraska contributing about half. Wisconsin shows a dramatic rise in planted area, while Iowa remains focused on corn and soybeans. Other states report sizable percentage increases in plantings, signaling a broadly brighter winter wheat outlook nationwide.
