Balmorhea Library Interlibrary Loan Lets residents request items
The Balmorhea Public Library offers Interlibrary Loan with Martha Moore coordinating requests. Requests go to the El Paso Public Library center, then to Texas libraries if needed, with delivery by mail within 24 hours or via teletype. Most ILL is free and may take 10 days to two weeks. Reeves County residents may use the service. The Saragosa SDA Mission school plans a Christmas holidays break and a baptism event next Saturday from 11 to 12.

The Balmorhea FHA held Christmas party at the Homemaking Department with Peggy Moore president presiding. Gifts were exchanged and refreshments served to 31 members and guests. Deputies With Sentences Suspended In Pecos County Case
Two Pecos County sheriff deputies Mike Hill and Bill Mabe were sentenced to nine months in prison and $1,500 in fines but had sentences suspended after pleading guilty to civil rights violations against jail prisoners in Fort Stockton. Each received 90 days on three counts to run consecutively plus $500 fines per conviction, then five years probation with one year supervision. Spectators cried. sheriff Pete Ten Eyck defended the department amid claims the case is politically motivated.

Mistrial Declared in Tito Juarez Drug Case Barstow
A mistrial was declared by District Judge J H Starley after a Pecos Barstow drug raid led to Tito Juarez being charged with delivery and possession of heroin marijuana and amphetamines. Also arrested were wife Gloria and daughters Mary and Beatrice Juarez. Other suspects Reyes Rodriguez Ernest Matta and Danny Matta faced possession charges as the nine month heroin trafficking probe in the Pecos Barstow area continued.

Trust funds for orphaned Dallas children named
Billy and Mary Ann Locklear, ages 3 and 2, were chosen as beneficiaries of a lifelong trust set up by 80 year old Russian immigrant Elia Garvetch before his death last October. The Basey family in Salado was awarded permanent custody of the children.
