Reeves County appoints Darrell Glover as county judge
Darrell Glover named Reeves County judge by the county commissioners replacing F H Ryan after a unanimous court decision. UF Drive Officially Underway

Weekend traffic deaths spike in South Texas region

Pecos Region Receives Light Weekend Rain and Cold Start
Areawide moisture measured about .04 of an inch as a weekend front lingered in Pecos and surrounding areas. Low temperatures dipped to 23, with cold weather expected through Tuesday night. Mostly cloudy skies and a chance of additional rain persist in the Pecos Valley, with a warm trend forecast Wednesday. Elsewhere, a frontal system moved from Texas toward the west Louisiana coast, bringing rain and thundershowers to Coastal Plains and Southeast Texas. clearing set in across West Texas and Panhandle while morning lows stayed in the 20s to upper 50s in the southeast. National Corrections Academy to Modernize Prisons
Atty Gen John N Mitchell announced a National Corrections Academy at the National Conference on Corrections in Williamsburg Virginia. The academy will train federal, state and local staff and work with the Bureau of Prisons and LEAA to upgrade the penal system and provide education and rehabilitation opportunities for inmates. A second project creates a national clearinghouse for criminal justice architecture at the University of Illinois and a clearinghouse for correctional education to aid planning and program implementation.

Victor Lynn Ashley of Pecos has been notified by Congressman Richard C. White of a nomination to the United States Naval Academy for the class entering in 1972. A Pecos High School senior, 17, he is the son of Mrs. Catherine Ashley of Pecos and Olin Ashley of Odessa. Ashley is a Pecos Eagles football two year letterman with honors as second team all district fullback in 1970 and 1971 and currently plays varsity basketball.
