Nixon planned China trip to promote understanding
A White House briefing says President Nixon and Pat will visit mainland China February 21 to 28, the longest stay abroad, to promote mutual understanding rather than an immediate Vietnam settlement. The trip includes stops in Peking and Shanghai.

Two Pecos youths face paint sniffing charges
Police found three youths in an east Pecos alley around 8:55 p.m. One fled, the other two were charged after officers noted paint on their faces and hands and a strong paint odor. Domingo Salazar Jimenez, 18, also faced a public intoxication charge. a 13-year-old was turned over to his parents.

Mrs. Tally Talamantez of Pecos won the Pecos Enterprise sponsored Great Turkley Hunt prize and may choose a turkey or ham. She entered at Wacker's with 44 others, found the misspelled word closng in an ad, and her entry was drawn from over 300 entries from Penney's Williams, Gibsons Pauline's Ma Williams and stores. The contest runs through December 24 and Monday's winner Allen Jones has not claimed his prize.

Police make first arrest in deaths in Houston area
Willis Texas AP report says James M. Whittle 28 a Houston wrecker driver is charged with the murder of 16 year old Adell Crabtree and is not linked to six other slayings. Whittle allegedly killed Crabtree with two shotgun blasts near Conroe on Nov 2 and failed a lie detector test.

City seeks abandoned vehicles in Pecos
City health and Sanitation superintendent Alfred Gomez said about 80 abandoned cars have been picked up for disposal and 300 to 400 more remain within Pecos. He expects year end removal and enforcement actions to follow for cars saved by residents. The city aims to enforce a six foot fence rule and conceal vehicles from street view.
