Mother of six wins license to preach in Reformed Church
Joyce Stedge 47 mother of six becomes the first woman in the 220000-member Reformed Church in America to be granted a license to preach after church leaders ruled that "persons" include women. Final approval came at the General Synod in Pella Iowa after a 11/2 hour debate. She has preached at three New York and New Jersey churches and favors dialogue with congregations rather than lecturing from a pulpit. The ordination requires a call from a church and acceptance by a congregation.
