Consider options when buying a home freezer

Consumers may buy larger freezers than needed. A rule of thumb suggests 2.5 cubic feet per family member, meaning a four person family needs about 10 cubic feet. Larger freezers waste energy if not filled, chest models use less energy, and location affects usage. Renting freezer space is cheaper but less flexible. Careful planning and inventory help manage a home freezer.
