Conviction in San Quentin Six case marks longest CA trial
In Marin County a jury convicts three of the San Quentin Six after a 16 month, 2.1 million dollar trial over the Aug 21 1971 prison escape that left six dead. Johnny L Spain is guilty of murder and escape conspiracy while David Johnson and Hog Pinell are convicted of assaulting guards. Louis Talamantez Fleeta Drumgo and Willie Tate are acquitted. Sentencing set for Sept 30 with possible life terms.

Reeves County Judge F H Ryan 81 died today at the Pecos Nursing Home after a brief illness. Born March 10 1895 in New Mexico he served as chief administrator for Reeves County from January 1 1959 until his resignation December 1 1971 due to health limits. Services are pending at Pecos Funeral Home.

Pecos family killed in head on crash near Brady
A head on collision nine miles west of Brady left five dead including four Pecos family members. Alfred C. McIntire 36 his wife Frances 36 and their children Debbie 10 Ray 13 died along with Samuel E. Morris 31 of Brady. DPS said the crash occurred about 12:50 a.m. both drivers died at the scene and the bodies were taken to Wilkerson Funeral Home in Brady.
