She will be at Elm St Baptist Church May 14 at 7 p m sharing with listeners the word of God. She uses a scale tabernacle model built as in Exodus to illustrate redemption. No offering is required.
The Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest in Austin will host commencement May 23 with Rt Rev Edmond Lee Browning of Hawaii delivering the address at 11 a.m. in Christ Chapel. The 25th commencement activities include a Eucharist May 22, diplomas and certificates awarded by Bishop J Milton Richardson, and board meetings.
A Methodist bazaar called Crafty Christian Bazaar is planned for Saturday May 6 between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church. Items for sale include childrens clothes homemade toys crocheted pads blankets rain bonnets potholders wind chimes and pies and cakes. Church activities this week include services at 9:45 a.m. and 10:55 a.m. with vespers at 6 p.m. plus meetings of Methodist men Tuesday and United Methodist Women Wednesday May 2 and 3 respectively and a May 1 dinner gathering.
The Most Rev. Sidney M. Metzger, bishop of the El Paso Diocese for 36 years, will be honored at a public reception from 7 to 9 p.m. May 5 at St. Catherine's Parish Hall. The diocese covers 18 counties in West Texas and southern New Mexico and Metzger has announced his retirement. The Pecos appreciation reception is hosted by the El Paso Diocese Council of Catholic Laity and local clergy. The Most Rev. Patrick Fernandez Flores will be installed as Metzger's successor at 7 p.m. May 29 in El Paso's Civic Center.
Washington AP reports a CERAP study showing religious seminaries with a 7 percent drop last year from 18,029 to 16,831. The decline centered in diocesan seminaries while religious order schools rose about 1 percent.
