Area artists may enter the Comanche Springs Spring Exhibition in Fort Stockton May 7 to 14. Entries accepted May 7 8 from 9am to 5pm with judging May 11 at 7 30pm. Public viewing May 12 14 with a reception May 14 from 3 to 5. Jurors Marian Wise Barbara Jones and Louise Hawkins. Awards total 1650 plus donor prizes. Entry limit three per artist. Fee 3 per entry.

Market Advances as Dow Edges Up Amid Mixed News
The Dow Jones industrial average rose modestly to 838.62 by noon, led by blue chips as trading stays active. NYSE volume reached 20.21 million shares, while the market awaits further movement after a March trade deficit of 2.8 billion. U.S. Steel traded unchanged at 27 7/8 after a 58.7 million loss for Q1. The Big Board and AMEX indices show small gains. Grain prices in New York show No 2 hard red winter wheat at 3.0954 and corn around 2.54 1/4.

Elva Sais reported to Pecos Police that Jim White’s residence at Adams Trailer Park was pried open while out of town. A 19 inch Catalina TV with brown case and black front was taken. Case under investigation. Phil Swift reported a Benjamin Air Rifle stolen from a company pickup between April 22 and 23. Gun is a pellet model 177. owner can identify it. Case pending. Ann Shaw reported a rock thrown through a west side window of Holiday Inn by a driver in a dark El Camino pickup. No suspects yet. investigation pending.
