The FTC sues to block the Parke Davis & Co. and Warner Lambert acquisition claiming it eliminates competition and creates the nation’s third largest drug firm. The combined entities reported assets of 971 million dollars in 1969.
A federal narcotics agent testified that Robert L. Robertson of Dallas paid $7,500 to an unnamed Austin official to facilitate cocaine shipments. The third day of the international conspiracy case links a state capital connection to the narcotics network.

Directed by Mrs. Laura Boswell admission 75 cents students 1.00 adults.
Presidio Productions presents its first feature at the State Theatre Pecos starting Friday evening led by R B McGowen Jr former First National Bank executive now producer. Cast includes Robert Elston Anitra Walsh Darryl Wells Barbara Brownwell Jack Gardner Marie Santell and Margery of Jourden main. The plot centers on Elston and Walsh with witchcraft themes and a dramatic ending. Show times 7 00 p m Friday and 1 30 p m Saturday matinee.
Last rites for Conrado Franco 18 of Barstow are set for 3:00 PM at Barstow Catholic Church. He died after an accidental shooting while hunting with his brother-in-law and was pronounced dead on arrival at Reeves County Memorial Hospital. Born in Pecos on June 4 1952 he attended Pecos schools. He is survived by Crispen and (Mrs) Franco of Barstow, Elias a brother, and Lupe Gonzales of Barstow and Della Flores of Pecos.
The 1971 regional Texas State Historical Survey meeting will be in Pecos on April 27 at the West of The Pecos Museum. Registration starts 9 36 a.m. Activities run 10 a.m. to about 3 30 p.m. A noon Dutch luncheon will be at the Holiday Inn. Mrs Harold Lindley chairs the Reeves County Historical Survey Committee and will host. County participants include Brewster Crane Culberson Ector El Paso Hudspeth Jeff Davis Loving Pecos Reeves Terrell Ward and Winkler.
The Aerial Round Up for the Veterans of Foreign Wars is set for April 24 and 25 with Ted C. Cowell Comrade and Clifford Teer Comrade aboard the West leg. The plane lands in Pecos at 1 20 p m on April 24. lunch and a one hour five minute layover follow before departures.
Public sale of liquor by the drink becomes legal in Texas for the first time since 1918. Gov. Preston Smith signs the bill into law at 11 48 a.m. in Austin.
The Texas 4th Court of Civil Appeals ruled the annexation of Toyah School District by Pecos Barstow Consolidated was not conducted in compliance with open meetings requirements. The ruling voids the annexation order, citing the meeting was not public and the vote occurred with public access barred.
Pecos men Dan Peyton and Jim Wafer of Peyton Oil Co returned from the Texas Oil Jobbers Association convention in Dallas April 15 to 17. About 1 200 oil jobbers and distributors heard talks by top executives including H A Bade Jr of Mobil Oil and Leo Guttman of the National Oil Jobbers Council. New officers were elected headed by G N Parrott, with regional vice presidents and a retiring John Stoneham. Major oil firms and independents held meetings with agents during the gathering.
The Pecos High School FFA stock judging team earned first place overall at the Sul Ross Invitational Judging Contest with a 457 of 500, also taking first in the Big Bend District. Teammates were Jim Dearing Ronald Box Jimmy Martinez and alternate Roger Harrison. Ronald Box was 3rd high individual in live stock beef and Jim Dearing 4th. Jim Dearing was high-point man in swine.
A large share of Pecos residents favor Billie Sol Estes in his Monday parole hearing at La Tuna Federal Prison. He is serving a 15 year term for fraudulent financial dealings after a prior parole denial. Local views split over safety concerns, while officials cite a prison conduct report in the eight member Parole Board review.
Five Fort Worth women with 26 to 28 years seniority join Texas and Pacific Railway Co. as janitors in Big Spring, the first female caretakers in the station’s 81 year history. They pooled lodging, resist discharge, and await future reassignment after Fort Worth mail office closure.
