Feedlots shift to custom feeding cutting own cattle needs
Major West Texas feedlots profit by feeding cattle they do not own. A Texas A&M study found under 10 percent of cattle in these lots are owned by the feedlot firms, with most cattle owned by regional farmers and ranchers and other clients. Growth driven by custom feeding could reach 50,000 head by 1975.
