Cold wet weather dampens state farm activities
In College Station Texas freezing temperatures early in the week damaged fruit and pecan trees in western areas and hail damaged some vegetable crops in the Winter Garden. Corn and grain sorghum crops are up to good stands over most of South and Southwest Texas, though rootworms damaged some plantings requiring replanting as planting progress nears completion.

Cotton prices rise on limited sales across Western regions
Spot cotton prices climbed with limited volume as demand stayed firm for old and new crop. Old crop supplies were tight while planting progressed in California’s El Centro and Kern County amid cool to warm weather shifts. Quarantines for cattle due to scabies were lifted in seven Texas counties but remain in others and across neighboring states.

Boll weevil remains cotton's No. 1 enemy
Agriculture Commissioner John C. White states the boll weevil remains the top threat to cotton.
