Jerry Lewis wowed a black tie crowd in Paris with a 90 minute performance at the Olympia. An American reporter recalled his TV routines as France’s critics praised his brilliance since Chaplin and he will perform two more weeks in the city.
Bill Mattox receives a varsity OQ plaque from the University of Oklahoma for football 1940 41 and 1942 and is photographed with his All American center statue. A silver sword honors him as outstanding Military Cadet. Mattox graduated in 1943 with a BS. He married Melanie Brown in Sept 1943. they have three children and long Pecos residence.
Pecos High School seniors were feted with a Chuck Wagon Supper on Thursday night at West Park Baptist Church.
Seniors and guests enjoyed a Western themed meal sponsored by the WMU with menu items like Ranchmans Delight and Stage Plank. Charles Pattillo acted as emcee with Rev L A Pattillo and Mrs Clyde Chasteen welcoming attendees. The program included a Mello Drama Frontier Justice and musical numbers led by Jane Erskine, followed by a main address from Dean Allen Odessa College. Special guests and sponsors attended as the event emphasized purpose and community.
College volunteers from Siena College in New York joined 106 students in Nevada Missouri for a four day Easter project. They cut trees dug a latrine painted houses raked yards visited a mental hospital and helped a widow with a home extension. St Francis Academy hosts the annual effort inviting Eastern college volunteers to assist local residents.
In Pacifica, the parents of Rev. Robert F. Duryea Jr. celebrate learning he has a daughter in law and a 5 year old grandson after his excommunication. Duryea vows to seek future work while considering teaching and social work, and his wife Lualan remains unnamed publicly.
Rotarians face a tax note on late returns as a new law adds a 5 percent charge. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hubbs and Brazil exchange student Nivia Coelho will attend the Rotary District meeting in Alamogordo New Mexico this weekend. Special guests include Frank Baker publisher of the Ft. Stockton Pioneer and Fred Williams of Alpine. A letter from David Davis of the Sand Hills District Boy Scout Council notes the death of L. M. Rogers Rotarian and Pecos Boy Scout Executive.
The Pecos Rifle and Pistol Club hosts its spring four position 50 yard smallbore rifle tournament Sunday April 18 starting 8 a.m. sanctioned by the NRA with a $2 registration and $1 per match. Trophies in women’s civilian junior and sub junior groups. Andy Gonda and Wayne Cox are among expected attendees. A noon barbecue lunch will be served with a $1.50 plate adults and $1 children.
Former Pecos resident Clarese Gough will be honored as Woman of the Year in Monahans at a tea on Sunday April 18 from 2 30 to 4 30 p m at the First United Methodist Church Parlor. She was selected by sponsor ing chapters of Beta Sigma Phi XI Beta Omega Kappa Epsilon Alpha Gamma Nu Alpha Zeta Sigma.
