Carlsbad Proposes Broad Park and Beach Upgrades

Carlsbad city council launches a major spring improvement plan for Malagueno park and the beach area. Funds totaling about 1090 dollars, plus volunteer support from individuals and the Rotary Club, will fund tree trimming, lighting consider- ations, playground equipment, and new paths. Beach facilities will be repaired with bids out for painting and repairs, tree replacement along the drive, a new fence, extended parking, a restored diving tower, lake cleanup, and filled low spots. The Chamber of Commerce may provide additional funds as the city seeks to stretch finances amid rapid growth and limited budgets.

City faces lien plan to clean up lots in Carlsbad

The Carlsbad Current-Argus reports that the city may have the cleaned lots placed under lien to cover costs, but lacks funds to pay for the work upfront. The plan would allow the city to secure repayment by the property itself once improvements are made. If funding is unavailable, opponents warn of greater disadvantage for the city.
