Police committee opposes reinstatement of Davenport in Pecos

A three member committee found no evidence that former Pecos Chief Charles Smith grossly abused his authority in Davenport’s termination. It recommended denying Davenport’s full reinstatement without prejudice, citing potential harm to city operations if orders by department heads are countermanded without substantial evidence of abuse. The panel includes Bill Moss, J.J. Maxey, and Ted Painter.

Emergency farm bill wins Senate approval amid veto risk

The measure would raise price supports proportionally to land kept out of production and could add 58 cents to 2.14 dollars to a weekly grocery bill for a three person urban family. House debate terms were set, while Gov Briscoe urged Texans to back the relief as production costs run high.
